What
They Do:
The common pigeon in Colorado is the
Rock/Feral Pigeon. Their lifespan is 2-5
years. Pigeons mate for life and can breed up to 8 times a year in optimum
conditions, bringing two young into the world each time. The frequency of
breeding is dictated by the abundance of food and the weather. Pigeon eggs take 3 weeks to
hatch with both parents incubating the eggs. At approximately 2 months of age the young are ready to leave the
nest. In Denver, because of the cold, Pigeons prefer to build nests in enclosed environments such as....under
overhangs, inside attics, under sofits/eaves, in gutters, under solar panels and on
covered ledges. They like the enclosed spaces that protect them from the snow, wind and other predator birds. Pigeon waste/droppings are a health hazard not to mention very unsightly. As time goes
on, the nests get bigger and their feces/droppings will pile up. Inhaling pigeon feces can be deadly.
They carry such diseases as histoplasmosis and bird flu. Bird mites can also develop from their nesting areas.
Pigeon/Bird waste droppings are a
health hazard and can be fatal if inhaled.
What We Do:
Pigeons will roost and
sit very close to their nests. To control pigeons, we
eliminate all their nests and nesting areas by either screening them off (pigeon/bird proofing), flashing
the gaps, install bird spikes or use repellents. Once their 'home' is
eliminated, they will find somewhere else to live. We can also live trap the
entire flock if necessary. We can also handle any other type of nuisance bird: starlings, sparrows, finches, etc.
Pigeon Dropping/Waste
Clean-Up Procedure:
Bird waste creates
microbial corrosion which will erode any material, even steel or concrete. The pigeon dropping/waste clean-up is
a multi-step process. Here's how we do it:
Interior/Attic:
1. Remove and
dispose of all nests, eggs, dead birds, waste/feces/droppings, contaminated insulation
or debris that are accessible.
2. Apply a dissolving solution to the worst areas.
This is an enzyme that eats away at the droppings. Scrape any beams, walls, etc.
3. Seal all brick,
wood or drywall with a permanent roll-on sealer that encapsulates any left over stains.
4. Pesticide fog the attic/interior which kills any
leftover airborne infectious contaminates. Deodorize entire building.
5. Re-insulate if
necessary
6. We also will issue a certificate of completion when we are finished. This
insures that you, your family, co-workers and future contractors can rest
assured the infected area is safe and any airborne diseases are
contained.
Roof/Exterior
1. Remove and dispose of all nests, eggs, dead birds,
waste/feces/droppings and debris that are
accessible.
2.
Soak the roof/exterior with an enzyme dissolver solution which breaks up pigeon/bird
droppings.
3. Clean out all
gutters/downspouts and get them functional again.
4. Pressure wash the entire roof/siding.
Pigeon droppings contain
ammonia and acids. If the droppings are not cleaned up, it dries out and turns
into a concentrated salt. When water mixes and combines with the salt and goes undisturbed, it creates small electrochemical reactions that rust the
steel underneath, eat through roof shingles, gutters and any kind of wood. This
is called microbial corrosion.
We can perform a full attic restoration, insulation
removal, re-insulate attic or walls, bird
cleaning and decontamination, odor remediation, reconstruction and
cleanup.
